Rooms That Totally Nail The Layering Look

So, there really isn’t a hard fast rule when it comes to layering, but at least one layer should be fairly neutral. If there is a lot of pattern or movement on the “hide”, go for a rug that is solid like a natural jute, or a rug that has a consistent color pattern throughout to avoid creating a hot mess.

Then, again if you decide you want to step out of your comfort zone and play with a pattern on both, be sure the colors complement each other.

Each “hide” is unique, meaning one-of-a-kind, which makes the placement versatile as well. You can center it straight on top of the natural fiber rug or play with angling it on a corner. I always seem to gravitate toward placing a hide under the coffee table, somewhat centered on the rug for a polished look. I have also used a beautiful cowhide layered on top of carpet in a bedroom, angled from the corner of the bed, to add another layer of interest and texture.
